Ramesh Ferris – Guess speaker at the Kelowna Community Theatre

Ramesh Ferris – Guess Speaker

Ramesh Ferris, a man who hand cycled across Canada, will speak in Kelowna about surviving polio. Ramesh’s visit is being sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of the Central Okanagan.

A Canadian polio survivor and long distance cyclist Ramesh Ferris will speak at the Kelowna Community Theatre on October 30, 2010.

Born in Tamil Nadu, India, Ramesh was infected by polio when he was six months old. At the age of two he was adopted by Canadian parents in Whitehorse Yukon Territories and, after many surgeries and physical rehabilitation, learned to walk with the aid of crutches.

Ramesh Ferris first made the news in 2008, when he hand-cycled across Canada to help Rotary raise awareness and funds to fight this disease that still threatens children in parts of Africa and Asia. Ramesh hand cycled more than 7,110 km by hand cycle over 173 days, and raised $318,000.00 Cdn. and increased the awareness of polio dramatically.

Ramesh is a Paul Harris Fellow, Vice President of the Whitehorse Rotary Club, and Chair of the Rotary PolioPlus Committee for his club. In April 2010 Ramesh released his first book entitled “Better than a Cure, One Man’s Journey to Free the World of Polio”. His book will be available, for purchase (at $20.00 per book) and for him to sign at the event on October 30, 2010. Proceeds benefit Rotary PolioPlus.

Most recently Ramesh shared Rotary’s message of Polio Eradication to delegates at the 2010 Rotary International Convention in Montréal, The Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper, and His Royal Highness Prince Phillip and Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II.

This November Ramesh has been invited to speak at the United Nations as part of Rotary International Day. Ramesh is looking forward to speaking in Kelowna and sharing his personal journey of surviving Polio and invites everyone to join with Rotary in their efforts of making our global community free!

End Polio Now “the Last Hurdle”

After 20 years of hard work, Rotary and its partners are on the brink of eradicating this tenacious disease, but a strong push is needed now to root it out once and for all. It is a window of opportunity of historic proportions.

Your contribution will help Rotary raise $200 million to match $355 million in challenge grants received from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The resulting $555 million will directly support immunization campaigns in developing countries, where polio continues to infect and paralyze children, robbing them of their futures and compounding the hardships faced by their families.

As long as polio threatens even one child anywhere in the world, children everywhere remain at risk. The stakes are that high.

“If we all have the fortitude to see this effort through to the end, then we will eradicate polio.”

- Bill Gates

Promotional Clothing Products

Spring is here and summer is just around the corner and one of the most popular promotional products out there at this time of year is “Promotional Clothing”. Here in the Okanagan golf clothing is always popular, on the golf course or in the office, but there are many other ways to promote with clothing.

Promotional clothing is a great way to market your business and build your “Brand”. An embroidered shirt has now become “fashionable”.

Promotional clothing has moved way beyond your basic “T” shirt and ball caps, (although they are still great for specific events).

Wearing a “logo” or your “Brand” at work provides a professional image for staff members and helps improve the overall appearance of the workplace. Your staff will also be visible when out in public as well increasing company visibility.

Probably one of the best ways to stand out from the crowd at trade shows, conferences and special events is to have your staff visible and professional in there branded clothing, wearing your logoed shirts makes you stand out in the crowd.

Remember promotional clothing is also a great way to show your appreciation to your clients and staff as well. They are very often prized items at golf tournaments and you will see your clients wearing your brand for a long time to come.

Why not “stand out in a crowd” and wear you brand proudly this summer.

Please feel free to call me to discuss different clothing ideas for your business.

Promotional Products – What and Why?

promotional products kelowna 2009According to Wikipedia, (internet encyclopedia): “Promotional Products or Advertising Specialties is the impression of company logo or information on literally tens of thousands of different products to help promote their company name or the theme they have on the product.”, in other words any item given away in any way to advertise your business or increase sales of your product or service.
You’ve seen Promotional Products used in political campaigns but companies also use them as a way to motivate or reward employees as well as to give and thank loyal customers or to entice new customers. Some examples of popular Promotional Products are coffee mugs/travel mugs, pens, pencils, T shirts, jackets and other types of clothing, umbrellas, candy, ball caps, key chains, etc, etc.

A survey of 180 college students at 5 Universities in the U.S. said that Promotional Products are “Influential and Appreciated”. 95% of these students mentioned “Appreciation” at receiving the items, and 85% could name an imprinted item in their possession or in their home. 83% said that Promotional Products would motivate them to; respond to a survey, patronize a business, purchase a product, enter a contest donate to a charity or buy a service.

A survey conducted by the PPAI (Promotional Products Association International) revealed that 71% of those surveyed had received at least Promotional item in the last year and that 76% of those people remembered the name of the business mentioned on the product; compared to only 53% remembering an advertiser mentioned in a newspaper in the past week.

Remember Promotional Products allow you to target the people you want to attract rather than using more traditional “shot gun” types of advertising.

Soles 4 Souls Kelowna – By Maxine DeHart – Kelowna Capital News

The goal is to collect 25,000 pairs of shoes in 25 days. Jim Belshaw and Roy’s Shoes has entered in a partnership with the International Shoe Charity “Soles4Souls.”

From Feb. 24 to March 20, sponsors across the Okanagan will be collecting lightly worn shoes. Local organizations including the Kelowna Community Food Bank, Kelowna Gospel Mission, NOW Canada and the Kelowna Women’s Shelter will all be offered footwear for their clients.

The remaining shoes will be shipped to the Soles4Souls distribution centre, where they will be sorted and sent to where they are needed. I know that women have many “mistake” shoes in their closets and it’s a good way to clean them out and help others.

All types of shoes, sandals, runners and boots are needed for children and adults, both male and female of all ages. The shoe drop-off locations are: Roy’s Shoes (1627 Ellis St.); Ramada Hotel (Harvey Avenue); the Capital News (Enterprise Way); all Capri Insurance locations; and Astral Media (Bernard Avenue.

A $5 donation at Roy’s buys two parts of new sandals. Organize a shoe drive at your school, church or place of business to help reach the target. For more info call Jim Belshaw at 250-763-5696; http://www.soles4soulscanada.com/.

Stepping up to support the Soles4Souls campaign are Jim Belshaw (left), Donald Robichaud, Bruce Falkins, Maxine DeHart, Robin Durrant and Jim Belshaw. Jr.

The remaining shoes will be shipped to the Soles4Souls distribution Center in Nevada where they will be sorted and shipped to where needed. Presently they have committed over 1 million pairs to Haiti.

WE NEED YOU TO CLEAN OUT YOUR CLOSETS
Estimates are that every person has 3 or 4 pairs at least in their closet that are not worn any more but still in good shape. We ask that you clean out your closets but convince your friends, neighbors and relatives to do the same. We ask that the shoes have no holes in the soles and in decent shape. All footwear including sandals and boots are accepted and needed.

It is also the GREEN thing to do. There are tons of discarded footwear in the landfills that when break down the toxic glue that holds our shoes together can leak into our water supply and atmosphere.

Promotional Clothing Products Raise your Profile in Kelowna

1080_Modl_Red_RGBI was talking to a client the other day, who was deciding what he would like to do this year with his “Promotional Apparel”. He did an event last year with “T” shirts and chose to use a bright “Florescent Orange” shirt for the event. Afterwards when they were looking at the photos of the event his company stood out because the florescent orange over powered all the other businesses that were at the event.

This is the power of “Promotional Apparel”. An event like the one I describe above is a one time show and you have only one opportunity for you and your staff to stand out, however if you would like to stand out at a more formal “Corporate” event you might want to wear a nice button down shirt with your logo prominently displayed.

Businesses who wear “Corporate” clothing find that it does make an impact on their customers as well as prospects. It portrays a professional image and very often draws people to you. Corporate clothing goes beyond shirts and hats; you can show your business off at its best with leather jackets or any other type of outerwear.

So remember no matter what your next promotion consider finding a way to integrate promotional apparel in to it. Remember there is no better way to help further your “Brand” familiarity and your businesses advertising. Even if you use “Corporate Apparel” for your employees only this is an incredible form of advertising.

Your employees and your customers love to receive “Promotional Clothing” and they become a walking “Billboard” for your business.

Promotional Hand Sanitizers – H1N1

Today I got my H1N1 shot and I started to think about getting the word out about Promotional Hand Sanitizers. Like everyone else these days we are concerned with transfer of germs and the H1N1 virus, it seems this is on the news every night.

When you want to ensure a happy and healthy environment for everyone around you, why not consider using a promotional antibacterial product. Every day we come in to contact with harmful germs. When you give out a promotional hand sanitizer you help promote a healthy lifestyle. I think that everyone who receives these great healthcare promotional items will be impressed with your thoughtfulness. They will also give this to other people as well, which will help spread your name and logo around the community.

Why not use hand sanitizer as part of your next Promotional Campaign? We can put your logo and advertising message on the bottle, but even more important, you are presenting a gift that will be appreciated by the recipient. Hand sanitizers come in 1oz. and 2oz. bottles as well as spray containers and start at about $2.00 per item.

Hand sanitizers meet a current need and you can offer an answer to this need with a very worthwhile gift. I feel that this Promotional Product has a high perceived value and is something that will be appreciated and will be used regularly.

During this H1N1 season, handing out a logoed hand sanitizer will show that your company is; current and caring, up to date and in the know and able to meet the needs of its clients and employees.

This is probably one of the best ways to “Brand” your business and stay topical with what is going on in the world.
